Kathy KyoungAh Khang

Kathy KyoungAh Khang is currently serving as a regional multiethnic ministries director with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF)/USA. Kathy is one of the authors of More Than Serving Tea (InterVarsity Press, 2006), and she continues to write on her personal blog More than Serving Tea. She is also a contributing blogger at Sojourners, as well as Next Gener.Asian Church.

Before going into full-time vocational ministry with IVCF/USA, Kathy aspired to change the world as a newspaper reporter. During her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University, Kathy wrote for the Daily Northwestern; interned at the Rockford Register Star; and spent three months working as a news production assistant at WNUA 95.5 FM, writing and producing the morning newscasts. She graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in journalism.

After graduation, Kathy worked as a newspaper reporter in Green Bay and Milwaukee, Wisconsin covering everything from a murder-for-hire trial to the African-American community’s boycott of a Korean-owned business in Milwaukee. Her time in the newsroom, combined with an invitation to participate in The Poynter Institute’s journalism ethics forum, further pressed her to consider how her passion for writing would be integrated into living out her faith in Jesus.

Kathy joined IVCF/USA as a campus minister with the Asian American chapter at her alma mater, moving on as IVCF’s area director for ministry at Northwestern, and then into her current regional role. Kathy was invited to the L2 Foundation’s Leaders Forum and has been a part of The Daniel Project—InterVarsity’s executive leadership development program—first as a participant and most recently as an instructor and mentor. Kathy has been a guest speaker and lecturer at Wheaton College, Moody Bible Institute, and Trinity Evangelical Seminary, and she is a popular IVCF chapter speaker across the country.

Kathy and her husband Peter Chang currently live in the north suburbs of Chicago, have been married for almost 20 years, and are honored to be the parents of Bethany, Corban, and Elias.
